War ended on May 8,1945. After a few days past the war, the division Hqs went to Berchtesgaden
Hitler came to Bastogne on May 17, 1940. The German divisions tried many times to crush the American eagles of the 101st Airborne…. In vain. It was the howling eagles of Bastogne who told him Nuts after being surrounded and having experienced terrible times. They were the ones who ultimately took possession of Hitler’s eagle’s nest in Berteschgaden: quite a symbol.
It was at the 101st Airborne that the Germans demanded to surrender their surrender so highly they held it.
Photo n ° 1 was composed by the GI’s themselves on a large panel, placed in front of the grandstand during the competitions they organized among themselves. Attended by General Patton and General Taylor (here, an athletics competition between the 101st and 95th divisions)
This photo alone summarizes and closes the Battle of Bastogne.
